Andy Godwin - Camera man
I first got into skydiving over 15 years ago because I was actually afraid of heights. I thought that if I could overcome my biggest fear the rest of life would be a bit easier. Little did I know things don't quite work out that way!
I started jumping back in the days before freeflying was recognised (we used to call it unstable), so back then 4-way was really your only option. I won a Gold intermediate medal at the Nationals with an average of 4 points (there were far fewer skydivers around back then). After this I took a break, became a CSI, had a daughter and then came back some 8 years later as a part of the 8-way team “Team Tequila”. The key thing that RW (flat flying) taught me was discipline, which is something that I felt was missing from freeflying when it first came on the scene.
I now work full-time as the Manager of Airkix in Milton Keynes. The tunnel is an amazing training tool and without it I would have never learnt to freefly. It gives you the ability to cram years of jumping into weeks, so you can progress at a rate that allows you to see dramatic improvement very quickly. I love it when I see students become better than me (and I end up becoming their student). To me that's the ultimate sign of success.
